SPA – Spray Seal Works Across 15+ LGAs
NA Group was engaged by SPA as a specialised sprayed bituminous surfacing contractor to deliver spray seal works across more than 15 Local Government Authorities (LGAs) spanning the Shoalhaven, Illawarra, Greater Sydney, and Central Coast regions.
Timeliness and flexibility is crucial on this style of project, as the spray seal needs to be applied shortly after road stabilisation to effectively waterproof and protect the pavement. Our team worked flexibly to meet constantly shifting schedules, with sealing dates often affected by factors outside the client’s control.
Both single coat and two-coat seals were applied, depending on whether the spray seal served as the final wearing course or an intermediate layer. A combination of C170, C240, and S45R binders was used to meet the specific engineering and performance requirements of each site. A common style of seal utilised on stabilised pavements is a 1st coat straight bitumen seal such as C170 followed by a modified binder on the 2nd coat, such as S45R. NA Group is well equipped to complete these types of seals due to having multiple bitumen sprayers and sprayer drivers.
Works were completed on time and within budget, with a blend of day and night shifts scheduled to maximise productivity and minimise disruption.
